Excellent Grits, I wasn't as big of a fan of the Fried Chicken but, I'm sure some of the other items on the menu will be perfect. Will go back and amend this review if needed.

I got the lettuce wedge, which was good but for seven dollars I expect it to be ice cold not lukewarm. The dressing, blue cheese, bacon, and tomatoes were good. I would order it again and hope that it came out cold next time. I ordered the short rib Ragu for my entree. It was very good I would definitely recommend it. They have a good offering of bourbon and craft beers.

The frites are amazing. So is the house made ginger ale. I Will be frequenting this establishment:

2nd time here and I love it. The bar is beautiful, exposed brick with the center piece lit up. The liquor shelves look to be some old recycled wood planks with pipe stand offs. Surprisingly I am the only one sitting at the bar for lunch. I had the pretzel loaf and beer cheese the first time I was here and it was awesome. This time I tried the croquet madame, I didn't know if it would be acceptable to eat this with my hands and make a complete mess or just use a knife and fork. I opted for the knife e and fork and it worked great. Sandwich was delicious and the frites were as well. Had a draft stone saison to go along with it. Beer selection is good as is their liquor and cocktail menu. The Exchange is located just over the I65 bridge on the right. Looks like they are adding a big outside patio area so when the weathers nice it should be a nice spot to come grab some food and drink. PS I am not a minion or friend of the owners, hell I'm not even from Indiana or Kentucky. Im just here temporally for work. Also if you complain about something being too expensive for what you get, find a new job or don't eat there.

On July 3rd, my boyfriend and I visited The Exchange. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken and I ordered the steak frites. Everything was great (food, atmosphere, service, everything!) and we were having a lovely time until my boyfriend discovered something he had ate contained nuts. This is bad news since my boyfriend is very allergic to nuts. To say it was an eventful night was an understatement! We ended the night in the ER due to my boyfriend going into anaphylactic shock. It was a scary experience but happy to say that he was fine! I tell this story because of a few things... 1. I want to thank the owners for being so great and comforting me while we waiting for the ambulance to arrive to the restaurant. They handled the situation so well and really appreciate that since this was one of his worst reactions to nuts. 2. A reminder to all to be careful about food allergies. The fried chicken had a romesco drizzling which we found out too late was a nut based sauce. We have been told from the owners that they will better indicate that this is a nut based sauce in future iterations of the menu. ALWAYS ask if foods contains something you are allergic to, we never would have guessed fried chicken would have nuts but it did. 3. Finally the owners promised us gift certificates to the restaurant which we have yet to receive but look forward to getting those and making better memories at this fine establishment. :-)

Came here for a late lunch after the Louisville slugger factory. Drove across the state line to Indiana - not far at all. Good food, good ambiance. I have the exchange burger - not bad at all. My wife liked her grilled cheese with figs and peaches.

Went with a friend for dinner. It was a very nice location as far as outdoor seating. The food was ok. Wish I got the steak and fries. The waitress walked by and it smelled delicious. Had a short rib and pasta. Was OK but the pasta was a little tough. I asked about nut and peanut allergies a month ago and the manager said they don't have anything with nuts and their breads are locally made. After reading Sarah W review and her boyfriends reaction it makes me concern to take my wife there. Probably avoid it. No need for a hospital visit.

Typically underwhelmed when I go here. Majority of the rest of New Albany seems to have more positive feelings towards the place. The Mac and cheese side is good, the exchange burger is ok. Prices are high, which is probably what sours me.

This was not our first time...but it was still just as good! We went here with friends from out of town..they were impressed. We started with beer cheese and pretzels and also the goat cheese fritters. I don't even like goat cheese but these were very good! The beer cheese and pretzels were good as always. For the main dishes we had salmon with pesto, fish and chips, grilled cheese, and the special which was scallops. We also had the drink freaky diki tiki which was an interesting combo...but a cocktail right up my alley. I love that it is close and upscale food. The prices are more than Applebees..but in my opinion...it's worth it! The new outside bar area looks like lots of fun (I heard it's open seating). Try it some time...I think you will like it!

I had visited The Exchange Pub + Kitchen before but it'd been entirely too long! I was so glad when my brother, beau and I decided to check it out again for dinner last weekend. We went on a Friday night around 7ish and only had about a 20-30 minute way. Not bad at all. We grabbed a drink and talked while waiting for our table to be ready. They have a pretty decent beer and wine list. I went with a glass of white wine to start and the boys had some beer. They focus on local/regional brews on tap (which is always a plus). Reasonable prices as well. We decided to share some beer cheese and pretzels as an appetizer, since by the time we sat down we were pretty hungry. It was yummy! I loved the flavor and consistency of the beer cheese (thicker and sharp) and the pretzel was good too. We each chose something different for dinner. My brother went with a couple of small things...brussel sprouts and empanadas. He thoroughly enjoyed both. My beau ran right to the short rib pasta dish. He loves pasta! It looked delicious and smelled amazing. I asked for a veg plate (since they didn't have a vegetarian option on the entree list). Our server assured me that the chef would do that and I was not disappointed. A generous portion of lemon risotto with loads of veggies on top: peas, hericot vert, parsnips, asparagus, and some cheese...of course! I am already anxious to go back. PS...I wish they would bring back the mushroom risotto. It was probably the best risotto I have ever had in my life. I guess maybe during the warm months they choose lighter flavored risottos. I may have to wait until October or November to get the opportunity again.

Firstly, I LOVE the interior of this place. The menu gives a rundown of all the work they put into restoring the historical space and it shows. It's a nice mix of industrial/homey/chic. The bar is full of vintage cocktail mixes; I'm pretty sure they could whip up just about anything you could think of. The food is excellent. I really loved the fried goat cheese with the honey and my steak was perfectly cooked. The orange dessert cake was stellar, probably my favorite part of the meal. My only complaint is the the food does seem a bit overpriced for what you get. Dinner for two came out to over $80 and I was still a bit hungry afterward. Even the salads, which contained no protein, were all over $10. I would definitely return for a special date night, but the cost inhibits me from returning as often as I would like.

My wife and I had a wonderful time here. Atmosphere is great, cocktails, wine and beer lists all excellent. We started off with goat cheese fritters and pretzel bread with beer cheese, both I would order again. I ordered the pork chop and loved it! My wife had the Salmon, just ok. For Deseret the ice cream brownie was amazing. So much food on the menu and outside bar makes me want to drive to southern Indiana more often!! We'll be back soon!

The Exchange Pub is my new favorite restaurant! Everything on the menu sounds delicious. For appetizers we had fried goat cheese - which will not disappoint-as well as the beer cheese and pretzel. The beer cheese is served cold and is not vegetarian friendly, but the meat eaters at the table really enjoyed it. For dinner I had a delicious Flat 12 Wit beer and grilled peach salad (prosciutto removed). Desert was a rich brownie with Comfy Cow ice cream. In addition to the amazing food, the musician who played was awesome! He played exactly what would be on my IPod- everything from Nirvana to Coldplay to Tom Petty. I also dig the Rosie the Riveter image on the women's bathroom door. :)

Had high hopes after reading the reviews, but I'm now convinced the owner (or his minions) must have written them. First off, the menu is extremely limited (and the prices are probably inflated for what you get). I was able to move past that in anticipation of a tasty draft craft beer, but nooo, all draft lines were being cleaned. Our food was average, with the frites being a positive standout. Now for the bigger issues. Frankly, the service stunk. This is a sizable place and there were probably only four or five other tables, but we were seated next to a screaming infant. I'm not anti-kid (I have one, and she was along for the adventure), but there were plenty of other places a decent hostess could have seated us. Moving past that, our primary issue was the inattentive service. It started ok, but quickly worsened. (Reminder; the place was not busy and the staff were certainly not overwhelmed.). To sum it up, after waiting over 15 minutes for someone to run my credit card, we gave up. I tossed enough cash on the table to cover the bill, and we proceeded to leave. On our way out the door, the owner/manager? Asked us how everything was. My wife was kind enough to fill him in. I'm not sure how he could have been unaware since I caught his eye 2 or 3 times during our wait. So, the place looks nice (in a faux olden days fashion), but don't expect the food or service to match the appearance. Oh, and the kid says the steak was too chewy.

After reading reviews of The Exchange for months, I decided to try it out on New Years Eve. My expectations were simply blown away. We felt like we were at our favorite restaurant in Chicago, The Publican, but amazingly close to home. The four course prix fixe menu was awesome, even though I hadn't been informed of the special menu or pricing. The BBQ Ribs and Egg Yolk ravioli were jaw dropping. Salads were top notch and then Oh My God the Lobster Risotto and Coffee rubbed pork tenderloin were out of this world. (Reading prior reviews, I felt that portions may be small and prices would be high...We completely felt the opposite; the meal we enjoyed was worth far more than the price paid.) Then there was the cheesecake and chocolate torte. We're still working on them two nights later! Absolutely amazing. Paula was incredible; I know it sucks to work on a major holiday, but she was great. It was also awesome to see Matt, from Four Pegs, as he's a close friend of the family and always works his butt off! We'll be back sooner than later...hopefully tomorrow night!

This restaurant is located in the middle of a quaint little city square, but has all the delights of a big city eatery. The service here is very good and efficient. The decor is industrial and the space is huge. There are plenty of tables and a separate fully stocked bar. I had the chicken wrap with the frites and it was delicious. The frites are covered in Parmesan and garlic. They come with a delicious aoili! The chicken wrap was pretty standard. Crispy chicken and more of that wonderful sauce. The person I was with had the salmon burger. It was equally good, and relatively cheap at about $12. I recommend coming here if you're ever in town and looking for a quick, delicious meal. Just a warning, you may gain a couple pounds!

Had a great time at The Exchange last night with 6 of our friends. Great food, great drink, and very friendly service. We were so impressed that we cancelled our anniversary reservations for next weekend and are planning on making it back here instead. I had the shrimp mac and cheese (perfect). My wife ordered the salmon special and she told me later that it was the best salmon dish she'd ever eaten. I also sampled some of the Korean ribs and the pork chops. Both of which were delicious. The atmosphere is very complex. I saw guys enjoying the game on the tvs near the bar and families dining together with children. Our waiter, Duke, was on top of our experience the whole night. He made good suggestions and seemed to really know his restaurant. Be back in 7 days!

Service is excellent! Our server had checked on us often enough that if we needed something we weren't left waiting around for it. The atmosphere is great, I'll leave it at that, you just need to check it out your self! My fiance and I got the beer cheese and pretzel rolls (loafs more like). Very filling and the beer cheese (which I usually prefer warm) is served cold and it is wonderful. Everyone in the place looks happy and well taken care of and comfortable enough with the place to bring children if various ages. The bathroom doors are cute as well with Uncle Sam on the men's and Rosie the Riveter on the women's. We also had the Exchange Burgers with frites, which I would highly recommend.

While I got the corporate vibe, this restaurant was pretty great. We ordered the spinach salad and roasted squash salad, and they were pretty darn fabulous. I'm not one for salad dressing, so I typically order a lemon to squeeze over the greens. Guess what? They grilled the lemon, and it was delightful. I don't know why, but there you go. When you walk in, a couple of nice, smiley (in a genuine way) hostesses greet you and ask to take your coat. I thought that was a nice touch! Our server and bartender were attentive and informative. Overall, a pleasant experience.

A couple of coworker friends from 25 years ago and I were looking for a spot to eat and talk about old times. We decided to give Exchange Pub a try. WOW! To say that we were pleased is a major understatement. I had the Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and they each had Fish. Absolutely the best and most unique sandwich I have ever tasted. If you enjoy a good beer with your meal, you will find a nice big chalkboard style beer menu posted high on the wall and visible from your dining table. It's loaded with at least a dozen (I think, I had a few) brews, some of which I can't pronounce (especially after my second selection) Our server Matt was very knowledgable of the beer menu, friendly and on point. He made us feel like we were royalty. Kuddos! The venue is very entertaining and fun, if you don't mind a little ambient noise. Prices and portions were fair and plentiful respectively. There was also a talented young lady singing and playing guitar. We had a great time and I most definitely will be back with my darling wife. Oh yeah, the bread and beer cheese... Delish!

Fish and chips and the hamburger, can't go wrong with either. Choices of tables or booths and even the bar. They have also have the "Big Ass Fan", which I am a fan of the fan. I would love to have a version of this fan in the house, to so cool. Look up for the big ass fan. I rate this four stars.

This is my 3rd or 4th visit. My favorite place at the moment in Southern Indiana. Excellent service. Great food. Interesting atmosphere. Lot of character to the building. Had a late lunch so tonight we ate tapas style - just ordered a selection of appetizers. Beer cheese and pretzel bread, mussels and clams, and short rib empanadas. Made for a great meal for $30 for two. We did not leave hungry. Great rotating selection of craft beers.

Beer cheese and petzel bread was delicious. The smoked flavor in the cheese was spectacular. Spinach salad with chicken was great. Had the most moist flavorful chicken on it. My friend had braised mushrooms and fish and chips. All was excellent! Will be back.

Food-DELICIOUS Price - OUTRAGEOUS Friday 3/20 I visited the Exchange because I was craving a decent burger and some Beer Cheese. Server was amazing, he had an amazing attitude and was eager and willing to answer any questions I had about the items on the menu. He recommended a Salmon dish that was the nightly special and when he mentioned the price being $22 I about fell out of my seat because that was a horrible and WAY too expensive price. So I got the Exchange Burger and the person with me got the Shrimp Mac & Cheese and we both split the Beer Cheese. The food was amazing but as stated above for the quality of the food the price was sooo not worth it. The Shrimp Mac & Cheese only had ONE little tiny Shrimp in it and when I asked my server about the issue, he had no answer. So after all that he did mention that they were totally revamping the menu. I hope they totally revamp the prices on their food as well. Mr. Server you get 5 out 5 stars. Restaurant you unfortunately get 2 out of 5

New Albany is in need of some innovative, better-dining restaurants, and the Exchange has helped that need greatly. I started going there about a year ago, and though I don't go as frequently, I always have enjoyed my moments there. The best thing, to me, is the approachable yet interesting menu. We've been to the Exchange with a variety of people--our 96 year old grandma, my best friend from NYC, and even just by myself--and the menu pleases everyone. For craft beer lovers like me, there's a great draft beer menu that is varied and nicely priced. The part that is most consistent is the stellar service; every waitstaffer I've dined with seems happy, knowledgeable, and helpful, and they know when to give you more face time and when to just let you be. (For instance, I went by myself today to just enjoy a quiet moment alone, and my waiter was great about making sure I knew he was around yet letting me enjoy my peaceful lunch!) I've not been a fan of their cold beer cheese, but I am a giant fan of their brussel sprouts. Bacon should ALWAYS be served with sprouts, I'm now convinced. The Exchange Burger has been one of my go-tos, and my husband had a stellar plate of rock shrimp gnocchi. As in: I-want-this-to-be-the-last-dish-I-ever-eat gnocchi. I do find their prices to be about $2-3 over than what the area merits, and that is probably the only downside. We would be regulars if the prices were just a smidge better!

Let me just start by saying BEST BLACK BEAN BURGER ever! I am visiting New Albany and looking for a yummy lunch in the very historic downtown area. It looked like a busy place and I can see why. The Exchange was once a Stable & Livery built back in 1875 but the now restored restaurant is full of unique charm. I love the high ceilings and open air feel too! Back to the food though, I also got my black bean burger with a small mixed green salad that was perfect accompanying side! Too bad I'm on the clock because it looks like they have a ton of tasty beverages to choose from like bourbon cocktails and revolving local draft beers!

Top notch - a solid and well-deserved five stars! We like everything about this establishment - excellent food and love the atmosphere - great drinks - My wife enjoyed the delicious blackened scallops and I enjoyed the amazing tender sirloin which was cooked to perfection with mouth watering sides - everything was delicious - the soup of the day was savory - amazing and flavorful - so good! The presentation was excellent and their signature drinks are tasty - good selection of bourbons and beers available. Good service. This was the best dining experience I've had in a long time. Phenomenal!

I stopped in 20 minutes before close and was greeted warmly and served quickly. I had the tomato soup to start, it was very very good, deep tomato flavor with a hint of herbs. I also ordered the fish and chips, it consisted of two large cod "chunks" in a light batter and served with fries. Both came out hot and crispy. The Exchange also has a huge selection of whisky and scotches and an impressive beer selection. Friendly staff, warm atmosphere, great liquor and food. What more can you ask for?

Went on 7-18-15 everything was fine until the food came out, I could tell my fried chicken was over fried at first glance and I'm not a chef. I decided to try and "power through" because it took awhile for the food to come out and I didn't want to hold our party up while they fixed it, but while the first piece was barely edible the second piece was not edible and I mentioned it to the next person to ask "how was everything" the person agreed with me, took my plate and disappeared. He came back offered me a free dessert, I declined, he then "picked up the beer cheese" hmmm, $7.50 for a ruined $21 meal. Meal should have been free. The 2 stars is because any chef worth a nickel would have taken one look at that chicken and not sent it out (have chef watch an episode of Hell's Kitchen) Why should meal have been free? Because I didn't get the side that came with the meal, I paid $5 extra for potatoes so I paid $21 for 2 pieces of horrible chicken. Yes I ate one piece, but it was the worst. Update: I contacted management and he agreed the free beer cheese was not adequate for my horrible meal, but he never sent promised meal voucher. Why am I not surprised?

The Exchange has the best food of any restaurant I have been to. Their pretzel sticks and beer cheese are a must have. I have had many different items on the menu from sandwiches to pork chops, chicken, and their sirloin with bourbon glaze. I have not had anything that was not excellent. I will keep coming back. The menu can be expensive, but the food is worth every penny. After you have completed your meal, you will not complain about the price.

First visit for brunch, have visited many times for dinner and lunch. Honestly, didn't realize when we went that they were only serving a brunch (not a lunch) menu, but stayed nevertheless. The food was good, however not very large servings for the price. The menu was minimal as well. The ambiance at the Exchange is always fabulous. It's a renovated old building with lots of character which is highlighted throughout. Totally worth the drive over the bridge!

Our monthly dinner group visited The Exchange. The restaurant was nearly packed, but our server was quick to give us water and take drink orders. They have a nice assortment of beers, wines and mixed drinks. The drinks came quickly. Starters ordered were wedge lettuce salad, house salad and asparagus soup. The Mrs. ordered the wedge salad, which was crisp, with bacon and a nice dressing. All of the starters were enjoyed. We ordered salmon with risotto, pork chops, steak and frites, scallops with couscous, seafood stew, and sirloin steak. The salomon and steaks were prepared perfectly. The risotto was creamy and very flavorful. The seafood stew includes a scallop, shrimp, clams, mussels and potatoes in a tomato, white wine broth. The seafood stew was delicious, the broth could have been spicier for my taste, but as stated it was delicious. The steaks, pork chop, and salmon were all a big hit. Prices are fair and the service good. I have two issues, bread is not served at the table and the restaurant is very noisy. You can hear the person next to you, but two people away forget about it. The restaurant has too many hard surfaces, creating the hign noise level. The Exchange is the best restaurant in Southern Indiana for lunch or dinner.

The food is consistently excellent and the menu changes a bit with the seasons, which I enjoy because it's easy to find something new to try. Favorites include the risotto, steak frites, and plain Jane burger. The only dish I might caution against would be the fish and chips - it used to be my favorite, but they seem to have altered the dish for some reason in the last month or so. Rather than lovely golden planks, I got what looked like frozen fish sticks, and that was disappointing. Fingers crossed that it was a fluke, because everything else on the menu is wonderful.

Awesome dining in southern Indiana. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere makes you feel like you are in a proper city but really you are just in quiet little New Albany. Notable items include Korean bbq, fish and chips, steak frites, and the salads are all great. Pretty much everything I've had is great. Live music on the weekends (acoustic), open air dining in the front room and a small patio as well, full bar with custom cocktails. Beautiful interior with reclaimed look tops it all off.

One of the best meals we've had in years!! Late Saturday lunch/dinner (we like to call it "linner" in our family) was met with outstanding service and unbelievable food! We had the muscles as an appetizer and the flavors were exceptional. Bacon, onion and pepper complimented the muscle broth but the compliment of salty pretzel bread really sealed the deal! Exquisite! My husband had the exchange burger- very well seasoned and one of the best he's tasted. As he is around restaurants all the time - this was wire a compliment! Paula - our outstanding waitress recommended the voodoo pasta, which worked its magic on me! A charbroiled chicken with pasta, basil and a version of a vodka sauce with a special twist - it was really awesome !! We just love this place. A "must" if you are in Southern Indiana !!

We have been here several times and each time has been flawless. The exchange burger is by far my favorite thing there (and not too bad of a price). Fries are wonderful, wife loves the fish and chips, great beer selection, and they sometimes have a steak salad that is amazing. The cheese platter is also pretty good when it has the apple butter on it. A must if in the area. Cool decor and great service.

The lentil-caulifower side dish was very good. The parmesan fries were top-shelf. The hummus was really disappointing and the beer-cheese dip was equally bad. Texturally they both seemed like they had sand in them. Chocolate torte was extremely dry. Service was excellent, though, and the atmosphere is nice and vibey. Spacious, high ceilings, upscale without being pretentious.

The Exchange hits it on all cylinders most of the time. This is a seriously good place. The first thing you notice is how amazing this place is. In their restoration they did an amazing job. My only criticism are that the chairs in the front aren't all that comfortable, but hey, who is perfect. The second thing you notice is that the service is right on point. From the time you are greeted to the time you leave the service is on target. The third thing you notice is the food. It's cooked to order and it's done the way you like it. I could criticize the salads----I think they are over-priced and not as good as many other items, but the other items make up for that. Whether you are there for lunch or dinner, the food choices are really good. Their fish and chips are perfect. They have a rock shrimp po boy at lunch and it's perfect. Their burgers? Yep. Perfect. A lot of people are taking a crack at frites and The Exchange gets them right. Oh, and the beer cheese with the pretzel bread is amazing. It's a little pricey, but this is one of the best places on either side of the river.

No substitutions or you pay! I am sorry - it has to be pretty bad for me to give you a low rating. I had the fish and chips which was so GREASY that I actually got sick later that day. I also ordered a specialty cocktail which cost a lot and tasted a little. seriously, not good all around. My other two girlfriends thought their dishes were just MEH. Would not go back. *note - this is the second time I have been here and the first time I had the beer cheese app which was ok. Same crappy service both times. *

Excellent food and attentive service. I had the steak salad. The dressing was flavorful and the steak was cooked perfectly. The cream cheese brownie was fabulous. My one very minor issue was that the music was a little too loud to carry on a conversation.

Four stars for the atmosphere and food! This trendy spot in New Albany has a lot to offer. It has a full bar with their very own beer created by Schlafly- I recommend that you do that! It is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the weather while having a good drink or to sit inside and enjoy the good food, or both. Their pretzel appetizer is the bomb, and I loved the burger I ordered. The one complaint that I have is the pricing. It isn't horribly expensive for the high end gastro fare, but be warned about the add-ons. I was asked if I wanted to try a few sauces and/or cheeses on my burger, and when I answered yes they brought out many different ones for me to "try." As I went to pay the bill I realized that I had been charged for each one that they had brought out. It added up to a decent little chunk of change and when I asked about it I was just told "well that's how we do it here." So watch out for that, but otherwise it was a good place to check out.

What a great new addition to New Albany...a place that is on the rebound but still needs more stuff going on. This newly restored 150 year old building is super cool. The history is described in the bar menu. Wow! It started as a livery and barn. Love the open air feeling on a nice summer day where the front of the building is totally open to the street. Had the pretzel bread starter with beer cheese. So good it's addictive. Also loved the grilled chicken sandwich on pretzel bun with lots of gourmet toppings. I also noticed their fish and chips are super popular. People at the next table got them. Looked amazing and the portion was whopping ...plenty left over for lunch the next day. Huge local craft beer list is a great plus - way to rep the local brew houses! We also had an attentive and caring waiter. Overall this is a great place for New Albany. But it doesn't get 5 stars for 2 reasons. First, it's not open Sundays. This would be a great Sunday family dinner place. Second, there is a statement at the bottom of the menu which reads the chef prefers no substitutions. I usually find the better the restaurant the more accommodating...so, there's that. But overall, this is a place I recommend and will visit again.

Great atmosphere in a gorgeous historic building which use to house buggies in the early 1800's. Quality of food is superb! I was a little disappointed to see a $14 BLT on the menu though.....They need to chill on the ridiculous price for a classic sandwich. The menu changes every couple months so keep that in mind... Excellent beer selection and a friendly staff. I will certainly be back next time I swing through New Albany.

We ended up here by accident. Wordsworth and Potsy invited us to join them for dinner at the establishment next to this one. They went through the wrong door and simply decided to give it a go anyway. The service was decent. There was no fawning or unwarranted admiration. No plates were slammed onto the table in a huff. The questions were answered and the orders were taken. The food was served and the plates were cleared. I couldn't describe our wait person for a sketch artist or pick them out of a line up. So, it would seem that I was neither offended nor overly impressed. The menu was varietal enough to provide options for just about anyone and most of the offerings seemed appealing on paper. There is a blurb on the menu about the chef requesting that modifications to his menu being kept to a minimum. Keep that in mind, kids. Don't irritate the cook with your omissions and additions and on-the-side requests. This ain't Burger King! Wordsworth ordered the Grilled Salmon and ate only a few bites of it. It was shiny and perfect on the plate, but that is where he left it. Potsy ordered the Grilled Pork Tenderloin and licked the plate clean. He brandished a fork at us all when we asked if he was enjoying his meal. Apparently, the pork is the bomb-diggity. Sexy Beast ordered the Seared Airline Chicken. Now, when I think of chickens and airlines, all sorts of bad things rattle around in my head. This dish was tasty, though. Sexy Beast enjoyed it very much. Spawn A also ordered the Grilled Pork Tenderloin. He also enjoyed it very much. I'm not sure that he found it fork-brandishing good but he did like it. Spawn B ordered the NY Strip steak. He declared the steak good but wasn't a fan of the Bleu Cheese Veal Reduction. I ordered the Exchange Burger. I am a sucker for a pretzel roll. The burger was greasy and the Gorgonzola was overwhelming. It was just too much and the whole thing fell apart when I bit into it. I ended up picking it apart with a fork and knife. That's not how a burger is meant to be eaten. I'm not sure this is the sort of place that we'd frequent often. It just didn't stand out enough.

I'm still a fan but tonight was the second time that I've had the salmon and its been under cooked in the center. Yes, I could have sent this back but I didn't, suppose I've seen too many shows where bad things can happened to returned dishes. Also, I was thinking that if Bear Grylls can eat a raw salmon then I can eat this. I will say that my wife had this evening's steak special and the price was never mentioned until the bill arrived. Its just the principal to me that the price s/b mentioned. Per my wife, it just wasnt a $32 steak and she commented that the best steak-salad is still at The New Albanian. The service was good like always, other than not knowing the price of the specials. I dropped the number of stars to 4 and will continue to support my local eatery.

Small menu for lunch but a solid selection of high end pub favorites- burgers, fish and chips and such. I had the portabella sandwich on pretzel bread and my friend had the basic burger. Each came with crunchy kettle chips and a pickle. We shared a side order of the frites. Everything I tasted was simply delicious. The portabella mushroom was cooked in a balsamic vinegar, it had feta and sundried tomato on top and LTO. The pretzal bun was almost sturdy enough to hold up to the mushroom and balsamic juices, not quite so it was messy to eat, but better than a regular bun would have been by far. The frites were so good, with parmesan and garlic and a dipping sauce. Nice size portion, easily enough to split for 2 people. It came served in a paper wrap cone which I guess kept the fries crispy but it was also really annoying to try to get to the last 1/3 or so of the fries and a lot of the seasoning fell out the bottom onto the table. We should have asked for an extra plate to pour them out onto. Serving sizes were good. A large lunch but not to the point of absurdity. Prices are moderate. About $9-12 for burgers and sandwiches, $5 -7 for sides. I would return certainly but it won't be a regular stop for a combination of location (Indiana....) and price (just a little much for my average lunch budget but reasonable for quality). I would make sure to get a table away from the large front windows if it was a sunny day- I didn't think about it when the hostess sat us near the window since it was a cool day but it warmed up to being uncomfortably hot over the course of the meal.

Today was our first time at The Exchange. We were greeted in a friendly fashion. My husband and I ordered the beer cheese and pretzel as an appetizer: very tasty. Then came the entrees. My husband got the fish and chips which he raved about. My entree was the steak and frites. The steak was very juicy and cooked to perfection. The frites were outstanding (and I don't usually like fries.) Overall, this was one of our best restaurant experiences. We will definitely be back. The preparation of the food rivals the best meals that we have had in any restaurant.

I have been coming here for years and it is a pleasure every time. The Ruben is amazing, fish and chips to die for and the burgers are smack your mamma good! Great beer selection and the wait staff is very friendly and attentive!

On a recent business trip the team decided to stop here for dinner and this place was a great find in this little town. The Fish and Chips that I ordered had a good crunch and flavor to them. The fries were fresh cut and the beer selection was GREAT! Next time I am near Louisville I will definately stop in here.

Let me first say that I love The Exchange and it is probably my #1 go-to restaurant in New Albany; particularly with out-of-town folks to show that this town can still be hip and interesting without needing to go across the river. Since they moved (regrettably from walking distance from my house!), they have gained a lot more attention and you'll need to expect a longer wait than at their old location. They've forsaken reservations on Fridays and Saturdays and you can expect at least a half hour wait. Rather than getting frustrated, head upstairs or the main bar for a drink to pass the time with friends and appetizers. The bar has a very bare-bones look and feel that fits the building. Look around and you'll see re-purposed doors as menu boards, fencing as bar slats and old boards as table tops. The drinks are typically excellent. They feature an immaculate beer selection, including the New Albanian Brewing Company which is quickly becoming my favorite. Mixed drinks are great as well, though my lady noticed a drop in the quality of the bourbon in her Manhattan; a virtual crime in this town. You're sure to find something that will suit your palette on the menu. The steak and frites never fail to please. The spinach salad is excellent if you're looking for something green and the Salmon is always good. Be sure to get the pretzel bread and beer cheese. The only real down sides with the move to the bigger spot is that the wait is much longer (30-75 minutes at peak times) and it is LOUD. You practically have to yell the whole time you're in the building. The room offers no sound reducing materials. While these would probably take away from the industrial chic look that is so popular now, it can be done in a tasteful way that eases patrons ears and vocal chords without being a detriment to the overal feel. While I'm a little disappointed that they've gotten so popular, I'm happy for their success. They've earned it. You should definitely check out The Exchange!

This is simply the best craft cocktail bar I've visited in the louisville area, including louisville itself. I visit louisville often, and if I have to travel across the river for the best craft, so be it. Food is top notch as well.

This is my new favorite place. I just adore the atmosphere. The interior design gets me at a perfect design level. I think it's like industrial post war chic. Lovely The food! Omg. We'll I just learned that they have a rotating menu. I love their burgers. The exchange burger is my favorite. Nice and juicy and just Devine. My family gets their specials a lot and we haven't been let down since. The beer selections are amazing too!

The atmosphere, service, food quality and drinks are second to none in southern Indiana, and also stand out amongst the greatest pubs to eat in Louisville. This isn't your standard bar food, but it's still a fun scene for a night out with friends or a romantic date!

Excellent gem in New Albany. We haven't eaten here, but my wife and I always ensure we stop in while visiting the area for a drink. The service is always first class no matter how busy they are. You'll find Zach at the bar making top notch craft cocktails, my favorite is the Old Fashion. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Ate at this restaurant for the 2nd time in the past week - girlfriend drug me back last night. Absolutely love the food. I also like the unique beers that they have in-house. The menu is full of variety but not complicated like a lot of restaurants out there. I tried the Fish N' Chips the first time I came and the Steak last night - both were really delicious. If you haven't done so, definitely make sure to try the board (3 for 15 or 6 for 30). We had it both times and its just great. So many different flavors in 1 appetizer. I do with they'd provide more bread with these though. Both times we could have used more. Service is great and food is awesome. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone I know.

New Albany seems to be proliferating with new restaurants, something I wish would happen to Jeffersonville. But in the meantime, dining dollars with be enjoyed in our neighboring city next door. My host and hostess chose this place to take me on my recent trip back home. What an incredible experience! Downtown N.A. is actually getting someway cosmopolitan. The Exchange is helping to create that aura. Trendy and industrial in it's decor, the menu has a wide variety of choices to choose from. We started our dinner with a starter of beer cheese. And if you like beer and cheese, the two combined are a wonderful concoction! My host and hostess selected the Steak Frites and the salmon, while I chose the scallops. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The scallops were nice sized and well cooked. They were paired with an incredible spicy jicama salad. Being a jicama fan, it's rare that I find it on any menu. The wine we chose was a marvelous Cali red called Upper Cut, a Napa Valley red. I recommend every RUN to their local wine depot and find this because it's a great choice and pairs well. I'm also giving props to our server, Caleb, who was extremely attentive and knowledge, qualities that we expect but something fall short of finding when we make our choices of places to dine. Thanks for a wonderful evening, buddy!

Went out with a local friend who had raved about burgers here. I tried rack of lamb (I always love lamb, so looking to sample lamb dishes!)..and I fell in love with this dish, especially the apricot sauce (favorite fruit!). I'll come back for sure! And it sure helps that the building- it's pretty so cool!!!

I had been hearing a lot of hype about this place, so I had pretty high expectations for a Friday night dinner. They did not disappoint. Being peak dinner time, I expected a wait, but it was reasonable. The restoration of the building is beautiful. The food met all expectations. Expect to drop a little $ for a night out at the Exchange, but know that everything from the food to atmosphere is a step above and worth the splurge.

Brilliant menu! The bold flavors of each dish do not disappoint. Great craft drink selection, with house made syrups. A must try is the Pork Two Ways appetizer, Short Rib with parsnips and braised greens or the bolognese as your main course, and any adult beverage on the hand crafted spirits menu.

While visiting friends in the New Albany area, we went to New Albany Exchange for dinner. We arrived after 6:30 to find a very full restaurant. We were told our wait would be 15 - 20 minutes but were seated in less than 10. Our waiter was helpful. He gave us great recommendations for beers, given what we each wanted. The menu was ok. It was easy to find something to please all of us. The place is fairly large. The bar area was huge and packed! There was live music which was fine too. The crowd ranged from young professionals, to families with children, to middle aged and older adults. Great demographics! So, what's wrong you ask? Oh! What a loud, loud place. We were seated in the front of the restaurant - not the bar or the dining area surrounding it. We could hardly hear one another. Even the person next to me had to "scream" for me to hear him! Also, someone in our party ordered a burger medium-well. It came out medium rare. This was discovered once part of the burger had been eaten. We pointed this out to our waiter who promptly brought a manager to the table. They offered to cook another burger or comp us for the partially eaten one. Great customer service. All in all, I will go back when I am in the area. Knowing that it might be very noisy I will go with no expectations of any deep conversations!

One of my favorite places to go in downtown New Albany. For one, the restaurant itself is really awesome on the inside. The food is exceptional. We love the fish and chips, the plain Jane burger with Gorgonzola, steak frittes, beer cheese and pretzels. Service is always good. Beer selection is awesome and they make a great ginger syrup if gin and ginger is your thing!

The Exchange is easy to find. It is right across the street from the YMCA in downtown New Albany. Every time I have been there, I have left being impressed by the food. I like the "feel" of the place too. The menu is full of great choices and I think you will be glad you came. It is worth going to check out and I am betting that you will go back again. It is one of my favorites for New Albany and there are some really good choices in that downtown area. If you haven't been down there to check them out, make it one of your next dinner experiences.

Went here for dinner on a week night around 8pm. Loved the atmosphere and decor. I felt very comfortable and sat facing the kitchen which made it fun to watch. Ordered the beer cheese for an appetizer. The spreadable cheese was good but the pretzel bread was perfect. Soft interior with a slightly stiff exterior and it was warm. Very nice. I had a difficult time choosing a main course because so many items on the menu sounded really good. Ultimately, I went with the NY Strip and ordered it Medium. The steak came with "Horseradish Yukon Gold Mash, Hearty Braised Greens, Blue Cheese Veal Reduction." The plate presentation was perfect and I was excited to dig in. The steak was delivered to me being very close to Well instead of Medium. However, I was okay with it and decided not to send it back. If you like your steak cooked Well, then you would have liked this a lot. The funny part is that the sides stole the show. The mash was yummy but the braised greens were nothing short of fantastic! I could have eaten a full plate of just greens. I really appreciate a chef that puts a lot of effort into the sides to make the plate complete. I was interested in dessert but only options were strawberry cheesecake or strawberry ice cream. I passed... Service was forgettable. It wasn't poor. It was just blah. No personality. Rarely saw her but she did get refills without me having to ask. Very nice beer menu and whereas I only had one, I could have sampled about 6 or 7 that looked really good. Overall, a great meal with nice ambiance. Honestly felt that I got a lot for my money and thought the prices could be $2-3 more on most menu items. I would definitely go back!

This is by far the best meal exerience I have had in New Albany. The atmosphere is open, trendy and fun; the drinks were fantastic and the food was amazing! I had the trout on a bed of risotto with kale and topped with pickled pears. The flavors were perfect together and complimented each other perfectly. The service was spot on, timely, friendly and thoughtful. I would highly recommend The Exchange!

Wow, New Albany is a happening little town! First, the service was impeccable. Friendly, prompt (for the most part), helpful and not obtrusive. Absolutely charming. We went for dinner and ate on the outside patio, Live music was playing, which seemed unnecessary, since the space was pretty lively anyway, and you really couldn't hear the music. The cocktails were clever and refreshing. The empanada appetizer was packed with cheese and a hint of bacon, and the three sauces were delicious. The insalate caprese was beautiful and tasty,. Could the (house-made) mozzarella have been a little creamer? Perhaps, but it was lovely with the dressing, and the tomatoes (and peaches!) were beautiful. The pork chop was beautifully prepared -- perhaps a little rare around the bone, but I prefer that to the other extreme. The grilled asparagus was tasty but way, way too thin to be grilled -- they should have gone a little thicker. The brussels sprouts were fine, with the Parmesan and some bacon huddled in the bottom of the dish somewhere, but I really prefer mine browned and caramelized a little. The chunky smashed potatoes were, well, chunky smashed potatoes, but they paired well with the sauce, The shrimp and grits were perhaps doused in too much sauce and too many chunks of bell pepper, but the combination of flavors was quite good. The entree portions are quite generous. We finished with a blackberry cobbler and wished the cobbler itself was a little crispier and the dollop of whipped cream a little more artfully applied, but the tart blackberries were a nice finish to an excellent meal. Definitely worth a stop when you're in the area. Then wander around the charming and surprisingly lively downtown.

Our dinner was very good. I wouldn't do backflips for it or anything but very good. Their brussel sprouts were surprisingly delicious. Everyone I talked to also enjoys this place. I am anxious to go back and get something other than the salmon (it was a Friday of lent).

Not impressed. Neat building and love the large open doors, but the food was ok, too expensive and very small portions. Would not let you substitute sides. Best part was the fries and ted velvet cheesecake. Probably not returning there.

I heard nothing but great things about the NA Exchange, so I was really excited to go. The food turned out to be nothing less than impressive. We ordered the beer cheese, which came with pretzel bread. Let me just say that I could've eaten nothing but the bread and cheese and been satisfied! It was fantastic. For dinner, I ordered a Plain Jane burger but added bacon and gorgonzola cheese. They cooked it exactly as I ordered, and the burger was also served on the delicious pretzel bread. This came with their seasoned french fries. My husband ordered the Steak and Frites. The steak, too, was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor to it. The Frites were to die for! (made with garlic/parmesan) The best part about the Exchange was that the menu was very reasonably priced. We spent a little over $40, and that was with the entrees and appetizer. The *only* downside was that they won't seat you until the majority of your party is there (even if you're there to claim the table). Also, we ate at 5:30, so there was actually no wait. I've heard from others, though, that after about 6 p.m. the wait can be quite long. Overall, I was VERY impressed! The ambiance of the restaurant felt like something that'd be in downtown Chicago or NYC -- not New Albany. Fortunately, I didn't experience the loud noise problems that others have reported. We were able to talk at a reasonable level just fine. I had a great experience!

(3)Mark G.

(3)Melissa B.

(4)Travis C.
(4)Lisa C.

(5)Diane R.

(5)Joe S.
Phenomenal!

Tonight first timer. Excellent. The food was terrific. Whet else can you get parsnips in August ... Wow
(5)Jon H.
(4)Mark M.
(2)Tom H.
(5)Pamela K.

(4)Tracey W.
Had a great lunch here with my Grandma and mom. Good food, good portions great service. Had the short rib grilled cheese and kettle chips....yummy. All local sourced food.
(4)Katelyn W.
(5)Andrew A.

(5)Amy K.
Only been here once but the house cheese burger changed my day. I'm a cheese burger snob so you can't go wrong ...grassfed beef so you get those essential b vitamins. Nom nom nom
(5)Jennifer D.
(5)Scarlet D.
(4)John M.
(5)Christine R.
We started with the pretzel and beer cheese along with poutine. It was very tasty and the portions were good for four people. It's awesome to find poutine in the Midwest finally. Great atmosphere and gracious wait staff. We'll be back.
(5)Bryan R.
Service was wonderful and the food was outstanding. Our server recommended the special, New York strip with skillet fried potatoes. It was amazing. It was our first time there and definitely will not be our last.
(5)Maureen M.
GREAT place for a variety of alcoholic beverages. The food is upscale bar food. Delish! Accommodated our ever growing group that night.
(5)Kellyo O.

My Bad..............it's "Not" CLOSED!!!!!!!!! Have been there twice and all was great. Sorry for the wrong post!!!
(1)Linda P.
Excellent food and attentive service. I had the steak salad. The dressing was flavorful and the steak was cooked perfectly. The cream cheese brownie was fabulous. My one very minor issue was that the music was a little too loud to carry on a conversation.
(5)Andy C.
(4)Mark P.
(4)Imelda M.
As always EXCELLENT food & service. Everything on the menu worth trying. Well worth a visit. Compliments to the owner, cooks, servers & bar staff.
(5)Kelly T.
Beautiful building. Had the pretzel and beer cheese....it wasn't the best ive had. I would rate it "okay". The beer selection is good. They carry new Belgium which i haven't found in ky.
(4)Allison B.
(4)Victoria T.
(3)Mookie M.
Food and atmosphere were quite good. Service was also good. Cool place in NA.
(4)Mark M.
(4)Shelley M.

(5)Logan S.
I have been coming here for years and it is a pleasure every time. The Ruben is amazing, fish and chips to die for and the burgers are smack your mamma good! Great beer selection and the wait staff is very friendly and attentive!
(5)Carl D.

(4)C R.
This is simply the best craft cocktail bar I've visited in the louisville area, including louisville itself. I visit louisville often, and if I have to travel across the river for the best craft, so be it. Food is top notch as well.
(4)Amanda H.
(5)Sally H.
The atmosphere, service, food quality and drinks are second to none in southern Indiana, and also stand out amongst the greatest pubs to eat in Louisville. This isn't your standard bar food, but it's still a fun scene for a night out with friends or a romantic date!
(5)Doug S.
(5)Michael W.

Absolutely amazing food this is a restaurant everyone must eat at! We had the mushroom bisque, scallops, chipotle hummus, cheese spread with pretzel baguette, muscles, burger

First visit. Absolutely luscious burger. Excellent craft beer in a really well renovated old building. Thumbs up.

Food = 4 Price = 4 Experience = 4 Super cool spot across the bridge from Louisville. Great bartender with unique drinks and beers.

I love this place! I've been here both for a weekend dinner and a weekday lunch and the food and service do not disappoint. The chef specials are amazing! Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new place to try in revitalized new albany's downtown area.

Not impressed. Neat building and love the large open doors, but the food was ok, too expensive and very small portions. Would not let you substitute sides. Best part was the fries and ted velvet cheesecake. Probably not returning there.

If New Albany had more places like The Exchange, people from Southern Indiana would no longer drive to Louisville for a great dinner. Amazing food and cocktails.

Wonderful menu with a great variety of foods each with a unique twist. Their pork chop is amazing. Salads are phenomenal. You will not be disappointed with quality or quantity. Enjoy!
